Healing vs Curing

The Difference Between Healing and Curing

The terms ‘Heal’ and ‘Cure’ are used time and again to define treatments for our health conditions. One defines our health as wholeness while others emphasize on eliminating the symptoms by medical science. They both are different yet important for our mental, physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Curing is related to western medicine, treating symptoms and diseases with drugs and surgery. Western Medicine has a pool of pills, injections, and other methods tocure the disease or pain. Curing sees health as the absence of disease or symptoms. All in all, curing is the repair of health, an absence of symptoms, and a remedy of disease.

Healing is related to natural health, restoring balance through lifestyle choices and natural means. Healing is not the removal of symptoms, but rather an integrative process that works on the restoration of wholeness. Healing includes a healthy diet, exercise, meditation, and other techniques. Healing is not about just healthy physical condition but also emotional and mental health.

What’s the difference?

Curing is not the same as healing. You can heal without curing and cure without healing. There’s a difference between sick, well and whole. Curing may be a huge part of modern science, but most health conditions are not easily cured with juts medical treatment. Illness and diseases like cancer, diabetes, migraine, high blood pressure, and arthritis demand to heal from the core. Let’s take the example of a patient suffering from high blood pressure. The doctor can give them pills that barely control their hypertension, but until they learn to manage the stress in their lives in healthy ways, the doctor is unlikely to “cure” their high blood pressure. Let’s take another example. If someone has ovarian cancer, the doctor can cut out cancer and treat any remaining cells with chemotherapy. But he can only “cure” cancer if the underlying physical or emotional life imbalances are healed. Otherwise, there’s a chance of cancer returning. When it comes to chronic illness or emotional disease, curing can only be done when healing happens on a deeper level.Healing is a natural process, and the patient has the power to heal themselves. Curing usually consists of an external treatment like medication or surgery, which is performed only by the doctors to get rid of the symptoms or illness. Healing comes from within and goes deeper than curing. It addresses the imbalance that lies beyond the symptoms. Healing brings together the hidden aspectsof a person’s life as they relate to the illness. Healing is different from curing, though curing and the betterment of physical function may accompany healing

Which one to choose?

Our bodies have a natural tendency to heal and can do wonders. An average adult heart beats more than 100,000 times a day and pumps about 2,000 gallons of blood. And we don’t even have to think about it while our body is doing wonders. Health doesn’t come from a doctor’s desk or pill, but instead from a whole, balanced lifestyle. To heal means to reduce or eliminate the negative conditions that support disease and replace them with those that create and support health. When a doctor tells a patient that there is no cure to their illness, it means that there is no medical treatment that the doctor can provide to eliminate the illness. However, It does not mean that the person cannot be healed. For example, we know that there is no cure for heart disease, but we all know that a person with heart disease can be fully healed and the illness can be eliminated from the body.

A-    There are many types of healing methods, like Reiki Healing, Energy Healing, Distance Healing, crystal Healing, Magnetic Healing, Trance Healing and more, which are used for healing an individual from physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects.

A-    Yes. We all can become healers. Humans have a natural tendency to care and heal for self and others. Registered and professional healers are people who have chosen to train and learn how best to use healing energy for the wellbeing of others.

Summing up

To be healed, the patient must change their mindset and behaviour. Healing is more often the domain of professional healers, while curing is the domain of medical doctors. Depending on the situation, both approaches may be necessary for the patient. In many situations, both healing and curing are enhanced by embracing the other.
